Job summary

The Monarch School and Institute in Houston seeks a qualified teacher to join our therapeutic educational program. You will help students progress across four core goal areas using our Monarch Integrated Methodology and collaborate with the Therapy Services team.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor’s degree and a valid teaching certificate per state requirements, plus at least three years of special education teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Implement Monarch Integrated Methodology to strengthen relationships with students.
  • Collaborate with Therapy Services to ensure consistent language and experiences.
  • Develop and implement student treatment plans.
  • Plan and deliver differentiated lessons for diverse learning styles.
  • Support and supervise students in various activities.
  • Document progress at designated intervals and participate in staff meetings.

Description

The Monarch School and Institute is dedicated to providing innovative, therapeutic education for individuals with neurological differences—such as autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit (hyperactivity) disorder, learning disabilities, Tourette syndrome, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, traumatic brain injury, and seizure disorders. We offer a learner‑centered approach that helps students progress in four core goal areas.

Education & Experience Requirements
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree.
  • Valid Teaching Certification that meets state requirements – the certificate is to be uploaded with your application.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Teacher with sufficient time spent teaching special education (preferred).
Job Expectations
  • Implement the Monarch Integrated Methodology to strengthen relationship development with all students.
  • Collaborate with the Therapy Services department and Therapeutic Support faculty to ensure consistent language, actions, and experiences for students to support their therapeutic needs.
  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of student treatment plans.
  • Learn and apply curriculum models such as social mapping, cognitive coaching, relationship development (DIR), sensory integration, reflective teaching, problem‑based learning, and academic focus areas.
  • Execute instructional strategies and programs as directed by academic leadership.
  • Plan and deliver lessons that address individual differences and student learning styles.
  • Support and coordinate students’ therapeutic agenda in coordination with the Leadership Team.
  • Report student progress in designated formats at specific intervals and in a timely manner.
  • Appropriately support and supervise students/learners at all times.
  • Supervise lunch, carpool, off‑campus activities and community/Greenstones meetings as scheduled or as necessary.
  • Facilitate a Student Committee, if assigned.
  • Build the school community by supporting extracurricular and/or social events beyond the school day.
  • Cooperate with the Program Director to set and attain yearly goals.
  • Participate in continuing professional education as directed by the Program Director.
  • Be knowledgeable about and able to reference the Faculty Handbook and Parent/Student Handbook.
  • Punctually attend and actively participate in staff meetings, faculty meetings, and in‑services as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Working conditions involve a wide variety of challenges and deadlines. The best candidate should be able to perform well under pressure, think logically, remain calm, and be a great problem solver. Although the position is emotionally rewarding and provides endless opportunities for positive impact, it can be stressful at times. The role requires the ability to lift up to 40 pounds, frequent standing, kneeling, stooping, and bending, and the ability to move desks, classroom equipment, and adaptive equipment.
