Job summary

The Monarch School and Institute in Houston, TX is seeking a qualified educator to join our innovative therapeutic education program for students with neurological differences. The role requires a valid teaching certification, especially in special education, and a 6–12 grade math credential.

You will implement Monarch's integrated methodology, collaborate with therapy services, develop and monitor individualized treatment plans, plan differentiated lessons, and document student progress.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree.
  • Valid teaching certification to meet state requirements with certificate uploaded.
  • Certification in special education, certificate uploaded with application.
  • Certification in grade-appropriate (6-12) secondary math, certificate uploaded with application.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a teacher, with a focus on special education.

Responsibilities

  • Implement Monarch's integrated methodology to strengthen relationship development with students.
  • Collaborate with therapy services and support faculty to ensure consistent language and experiences.
  • Develop and implement student treatment plans.
  • Learn curriculum models such as social mapping, cognitive coaching, DIR, and sensory integration.
  • Plan and implement differentiated lessons addressing individual differences and learning styles.
  • Support and coordinate students’ therapeutic agenda with leadership.

Description

Monarch School and Institute is dedicated to providing an innovative, therapeutic education for individuals with neurological differences—such as those associated with autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit (hyperactivity) disorder, learning disabilities, Tourette syndrome, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, traumatic brain injury, and seizure disorders. We offer a learner‑centered approach that helps students progress in four core goal areas.

Reporting

Reports to the Program Director.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree.
  • Valid teaching certification to meet state requirements. The certificate must be uploaded with your application.
  • Certification in special education. The certificate must be uploaded with your application.
  • Certification in grade‑appropriate (6‑12) secondary math. The certificate must be uploaded with your application.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a teacher, with a sufficient time spent teaching special education (preferred).
Expectations
  • Implement the Monarch integrated methodology to strengthen relationship development with all students.
  • Work with and learn from the therapy services department and therapeutic support faculty to ensure consistent language, actions, and experiences for our students to support their therapeutic needs.
  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of student treatment plans.
  • Learn curriculum models as directed; e.g., social mapping, cognitive coaching, relationship development (DIR), sensory integration, reflective teaching, problem‑based learning, and academic focus areas.
  • Implement instructional strategies and programs as directed by academic leadership.
  • Plan and implement lessons that address individual differences and student learning styles.
  • Support and coordinate students’ therapeutic agenda in coordination with the leadership team.
  • Report student progress in designated formats at specific intervals and in a timely manner.
  • Appropriately support and supervise students/learners at all times.
  • Supervise lunch, carpool, off‑campus activities, and community/Greenstone meetings as scheduled or as necessary.
  • Facilitate a student committee if assigned.
  • Build the Monarch community by supporting extracurricular and/or social events beyond the school day.
  • Cooperate with the Program Director to set and attain yearly goals.
  • Participate in continuing professional education for the improvement of the school as directed by the Program Director.
  • Be knowledgeable about and able to reference the faculty handbook and parent/Student handbook.
  • Punctually attend and actively participate in staff meetings, faculty meetings, and in‑services as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Working conditions involve a wide variety of challenges and deadlines. The best candidate should be able to perform well under pressure, think logically, remain calm, and be a great problem solver. Although the position is emotionally rewarding, it can be stressful at times. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
