Description

The Monarch School and Institute is dedicated to providing innovative, therapeutic education for individuals with neurological differences—such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, learning disabilities, Tourette syndrome, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, traumatic brain injury, and seizure disorders. We offer a learner‑centered approach that helps students progress in four core goal areas.

Position Summary

The Certified Secondary Science Teacher will be responsible for implementing instruction in the assigned subject area(s) in a manner that fosters attainment of each student's maximum potential. We are looking for an individual with a love for science.

Reports To

The Certified Secondary Science Teacher reports to the Program Director.

Education
  • Texas Certification in Secondary Science and Special Education (high school)
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master’s preferred.
  • Valid science teaching certification to meet state requirements with specific experience in secondary science.

Certified Teacher Responsibilities
  • Implement the Monarch School model of teaching with special emphasis on self‑regulation, executive functioning, relational skills, and academic competence.
  • Learn and implement the Monarch Integrated Methodology to strengthen relationships with all students.
  • Collaborate with the Therapy Services department and Therapeutic Support faculty to ensure consistent language, actions, and experiences for students.
  • Collaborate in developing and implementing student/adult learner treatment plans.
  • Engage in continuous student progress monitoring and suggest changes to treatment plans to support growth.
  • Learn curriculum models as directed, e.g., social mapping, cognitive coaching, relationship development (DIR), sensory integration, reflective teaching, problem‑based learning, and academic focus areas.
  • Implement instructional strategies and programs as directed by academic leadership.
  • Plan and implement lessons that address individual differences and learning styles.
  • Support and coordinate students’ therapeutic agenda in partnership with the Leadership Team.
  • Mentor and coach students with emphasis on pivotal target skills.
  • Report student progress in designated formats at specific intervals in a timely manner.
  • Support and supervise students/learners at all times.
  • Actively participate in building a mentally healthy school community.
  • Support lunch, carpool, off‑campus activities, and community events.
  • Build the Monarch community by supporting extracurricular and/or social events beyond the school day.
  • Cooperate with the Program Director to set and attain yearly goals.
  • Participate in continuing professional education as directed by the Program Director.
  • Be knowledgeable about and able to reference the Faculty Handbook and Parent/Student Handbook.
  • Punctually attend and actively participate in staff meetings, faculty meetings, and in‑services as requested.
  • Work to include and support trainees and new faculty members in implementing the Monarch model.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in effective use of technology, including desktop computer, ActivBoard, and copier.
  • Comfortable working with children and/or adults with neurological differences.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that show written evidence of preparation and reflect accommodations.

Working conditions involve a wide variety of challenges and deadlines. The best candidate should perform well under pressure, think logically, remain calm, and be a great problem solver. Although the position is emotionally rewarding and offers endless opportunities to have positive effects, it can be stressful at times.
