Role Summary:
The Test Development Engineer designs, develops, and implements automatic test equipment and programs for product testing and design verification, ensuring robust and high-quality products in manufacturing. Specializations may include Structural (testing assembly processes and interconnects) and Functional (verifying design performance).
Job Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the initial design and development of product test solutions, including software and hardware, based on customer requirements.
- Participate in all stages of the test development release process, including specification, procurement, integration, software revision, characterization, qualification, and manufacturing support.
- Integrate tools and code from internal teams or external clients.
- Debug solutions using experiments, tools, and failure analysis methodologies.
- Implement production test systems to optimize resource utilization, throughput, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Lead productivity projects, manage action trackers, and collaborate with development and production teams to drive improvements.
- Communicate effectively with remote team members, suppliers, and customers.
- Review and provide input on development designs with experienced engineering teams.
- Apply continuous improvement practices to all development and operational processes.
- Travel occasionally to the Toronto test development site.
Job Requirements:
- Ability to travel internationally to Canada; an enhanced license or passport is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science or Engineering (Computer, Electrical, Software, or Computer Science).
- Knowledge of electronics materials, components, and industry standards.
- Ability to analyze technical documentation, data, and identify root causes.
- Experience with testing software, methodologies, and failure analysis.
- Knowledge of cable TV distribution technologies, RF technologies (up to 10GHz), and experience with cellular communications (4G-LTE, 5G) preferred.
- Understanding of optical communication technologies.
- Proficiency in IT platforms, databases, and programming languages such as LabView, C#, C++, or Python (minimum 1-2 years of experience).
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in engineering development, manufacturing support, or electronics operations is preferred but not mandatory.
Physical Demands:
- Lab work involving assembling test equipment, wiring, and PCB assembly.
- Exposure to manufacturing environments and office settings.
- Extended periods of sitting and visual concentration.
- Repetitive manual tasks such as data entry and wiring.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer, Electrical, Software Engineering, or Computer Science.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years in relevant roles.
