Human Services Experience

Seeking 3+ years of P&C underwriting experience specifically in the Human Services industry. Knowledgeable about trends affecting Human Services such as levels of care requirements, funding, and federal and state oversight/involvement. Experience underwriting relevant/adjacent professional liability or abuse coverages (e.g., healthcare, senior living) may also be considered.

Ideal work-from-home location for the Human Services TM is the northeast, but positions may be filled elsewhere within the US for the right candidate.

Compensation grade GSD130.

Job Description Summary

As a Territory Manager, you will market, manage, and underwrite commercial business with select agencies or brokers. Your responsibilities include driving profit and premium to meet financial goals through developing, negotiating, and implementing business plans. You will lead and influence agencies by creating sales strategies and implementing practices that drive new sales, increase shelf space, profit, and customer retention. Collaboration with internal partners to support and increase Nationwide’s presence is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor market conditions, research risk factors, and analyze environment data to win accounts.
  • Analyze underwriting quality and quantity, review agency books of business, and recommend plans based on regional performance.
  • Achieve production, profitability, and service objectives by quoting, pricing, and underwriting policies for complex or sensitive accounts.
  • Manage workflow efficiently using company tools, coordinate large work volumes, and influence team activities to execute business plans successfully.
  • Drive agency business planning, improve profit and pipeline management, and identify new agency opportunities.
  • Market Nationwide products, assist agencies with pipeline management, and develop targeted industries and markets.
  • Consult with agents and internal partners to develop business solutions, risk management strategies, and coverage options.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with agencies, conduct agency visits, and develop new accounts.
  • Lead customer service efforts, ensure proper handling of requests, and support training needs.
  • Manage workload effectively, review business results, and lead agency reviews.

Additional Responsibilities: May perform other duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to the Director or Associate Vice President.

Required Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Relevant professional designation (e.g., CPCU, CIC) preferred.
  • Seven years of underwriting and sales experience in commercial business preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of commercial underwriting, pricing, coverage, and regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and sales skills, with the ability to build partnerships.
  • Independent judgment and decision-making skills within underwriting standards.
  • Strong results-driven attitude.
Work Conditions and Other Details
  • Heavy travel may be required, primarily remote work.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record are required.
  • Position is exempt from overtime eligibility.
