Human Services

Seeking 3+ years of P&C underwriting experience specifically in the Human Services industry. Knowledgeable about trends affecting Human Services such as levels of care requirements, funding, federal and state oversight/involvement. Experience underwriting relevant/adjacent professional liability or abuse coverages (e.g., healthcare, senior living) may also be considered.

The ideal work-from-home location for the Human Services TM is the northeast, but the position can be filled elsewhere within the US for the right candidate.

Job Description Summary

We seek a professional who is both analytical and a relationship-builder, capable of combining these talents with entrepreneurial drive to manage and grow their territory. If this sounds like the opportunity you’ve been looking for, we want to hear from you!

As a Territory Manager, you will market, manage, and underwrite commercial business with select agencies or brokers. Your role will include driving profit and premium growth through developing, negotiating, and implementing business plans. You will lead and influence agencies by creating sales strategies and implementing practices that increase sales, shelf space, profit, and customer retention. Collaboration with internal partners to support and expand Nationwide’s presence will be key.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor market conditions, competitive landscape, and gather intelligence to secure accounts.
  • Analyze risks, underwriting quality, and prepare reports; review agency books and trends to recommend plans.
  • Achieve production, profitability, and service goals; quote, price, and underwrite complex or sensitive accounts within authority.
  • Manage workflow and ensure quality and efficiency in file handling; coordinate with team members.
  • Drive agency business planning with performance metrics and opportunities for growth.
  • Market Nationwide products, develop strategies with agencies, and respond to account assessments.
  • Consult with agents and internal teams on business solutions and industry trends.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with agencies, producers, and key stakeholders.
  • Lead delivery of customer service and support tools, training, and development.
  • Review business performance and lead agency reviews to ensure alignment with standards.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to the Director or Associate Vice President.

Typical Skills and Experiences

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.

License/Certification: Relevant professional designation such as CPCU or CIC is preferred.

Experience: 7+ years in underwriting and sales in commercial lines, with expertise in markets aligned with our portfolio.

Knowledge and Skills: Strong understanding of commercial underwriting, pricing, coverage, and state regulations. Excellent interpersonal, sales, and partnership-building skills. Ability to work independently within authority and standards. Results-driven with strong decision-making capabilities.

Other Criteria and Values

Leadership skills, competencies, and experience may take precedence. Staffing exceptions require approval.

Overtime: Not eligible (exempt).

Working Conditions: Heavy travel may be required; most work remotely. Valid driver’s license required.

Salary Range: $94,000 - $194,000; Starting Range: $104,000 - $156,000, depending on experience and location.
