Job summary

Hamline University in Saint Paul, MN seeks a collaborative musician-educator to join our faculty as a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music. The position blends music production and performance within an innovative curriculum and encourages crossing stylistic borders and bridging genres.

You will teach history/culture, digital music technologies, and ensemble directing, with a performance specialty and a commitment to community-engaged pedagogy and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

• Terminal degree (PhD, DMA or MFA) in Music by July 31, 2027 or ABD.
• Active performer at the professional level.
• Proficient in DAWs (prefer Logic Pro) and audio hardware.
• Minimum 5 years of classroom teaching at high school or collegiate level.
• Ability to collaborate and contribute to a team.
• Community engagement with diverse communities outside academia.
• Ensemble leadership experience.
• Evidence of ongoing creative activity as a performer, sound designer/composer, or producer.

Responsibilities

• Teach core Music Production curriculum including history, theory, composition, digital technology, and performance courses.
• Direct/conduct ensembles: choir, orchestra, band, jazz band, modern or hybrid ensembles.
• Instruct courses that integrate digital music technology (Logic Pro) with audio/MIDI basics.
• Contribute to curricular development, assessment, recruitment and department service.
• Provide studio instruction in primary area (vocal, instrumental or composition) and support inclusive repertoire.
