Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support teachers and students with diverse needs across elementary and high school settings. You will provide one-on-one tutoring, assist with daily living skills, and accompany students to pools, clinics, or field trips as required.

The role requires working under a Special Education teacher, adhering to IEPs, and helping maintain records of student behavior and progress while assisting with instructional activities

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of characteristics of students with various disabilities.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and direction.
• CPR training is highly desirable; training may be required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction of disabled students under teacher supervision.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring to reinforce learning concepts.
• Assist with daily living skills and personal hygiene needs as needed.
• Accompany students on class trips and to clinics.
• Maintain written records of student behavior and progress.
• Support teachers with classroom activities and equipment setup.
• Note-taking for students unable to do so themselves.
