Job summary

Oklahoma City Community College seeks a Physical Science Lab Assistant – Temporary to prepare and maintain chemistry and physics labs for student activities. You will set up, clean, and organize lab spaces, ensure safety, prepare reagents, maintain equipment, and assist students under the Physical Science Lab Supervisor.

The role involves flexible hours from early morning to evening, up to 25 hours per week, with a maximum of 1000 hours annually.

Qualifications

• Knowledge: Safety procedures for storing, handling, and disposing of hazardous materials
• Skills: Dealing with human relations issues; basic algebra to solve chemistry/physics problems; Communication
• Abilities: Observe and detect hazards in the science lab

Responsibilities

• Monitors and guides students in individual lab exercises; tutor students needing assistance when available
• Sets up, maintains, and takes down labs for next lab period; prepares materials and reagents
• Organizes storage rooms; prepares solutions and reagents with correct molarities/percentages
• Explains experiments following procedures and safety rules
• Maintains inventory and assists with attendance records; keeps area clean and orderly
• Performs clerical tasks; answers phones/emails; uses spreadsheets
