Job summary

The State Hygienic Laboratory, part of the University of Iowa, seeks a Temporary Laboratory Technician I for its Coralville facility. You will perform daily QC checks, manage sample handling, labeling, and data entry while learning both clinical and environmental tasks.

Training runs M-F 6:00am–10:00am for at least two weeks, with Saturday shifts and optional midweek hours. Pay is $18.49/hour; employment contingent on a background check and references.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience or related undergrad coursework in physical or natural sciences.
• Ability to lift and bend; follow oral and written instructions.
• Strong data entry and record-keeping skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily QC checks on IR thermometers, fridge temperatures, and eye wash checks.
• Process and route environmental and clinical samples.
• Label and track samples with LIMs labels and TRF forms.
• Enter data and verify environmental sample results.
• Communicate logistics and courier status.
• Learn both clinical and environmental tasks as needed.
