Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care department of Food and Nutrition is seeking a Laboratory Technician. This position, under direct supervision, performs difficult technical procedures and allied duties in a clinical, environmental, teaching or research laboratory; maintains laboratory area and equipment.

The department may hire Lab Tech I or Lab Tech II based on qualifications; opportunities exist to work on specialty formulas, formulates, and QA tasks within an on-campus lab at University of

Qualifications

• One year of related experience in physical or natural sciences.
• Two years of related laboratory experience including one year as Laboratory Technician I or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and label specialty formulas.
• Deliver specialty and stock formulas to patient area.
• Prepare standardized mixes of chemicals according to procedures.
• Perform duties related to diet plans, cleaning, observations and records.
• Monitor stock and par level formulas; complete QA records for formula room equipment.
• Clean and maintain the laboratory area and equipment.
• Make inventory reports and perform basic maintenance on equipment.
• Maintain supplies and report stock deficiencies.
• Respond to inquiries from patient units and healthcare providers.
