Job description

MAIN FUNCTION:
The Telecommunications Operator is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the hospital communication system. This role reports to the Manager of Telecommunications and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.

Education:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Experience:

• Customer service or call-center experience preferred

SHIFT:

Thursday through Monday plus holidays, 11:00 pm - 7:30 am

Position options:

• One full-time position at 40 hours/week
• Or two part-time positions: 24 hours/week and 16 hours/week

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Perform clerical duties and operate communication equipment, including switchboard, voice-paging system, and radios; provide information to callers and visitors
• Handle incoming and outgoing calls efficiently; assist patients and staff with call placement as needed
• Be familiar with emergency codes and procedures; alert appropriate personnel and record incidents
• Serve as central control for mobile pagers
• Respond to alarms, identify activated alarms, and contact relevant personnel for response
• Use TTY phone to communicate with deaf individuals and physicians
• Manage keys at the switchboard, maintaining accurate logs
• Compile on-call schedules and meeting information
• Adhere to hospital policies including confidentiality, safety, infection control, and quality standards
• Engage in professional development activities to stay current in the field
• Complete annual competency and retraining requirements
• Attend required meetings
• Perform any additional duties as assigned
