Job summary

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University seeks an experienced Assistant Vice President of Information Services to provide executive leadership over IT units, drive network/telecom strategy, and nurture talent in a complex healthcare and research environment.

You will lead architecture development, governance, and cost optimization while ensuring disaster readiness, security collaboration, and enterprise‑wide service excellence to support SUNY Downstate's mission and patient care objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 7+ years in hands-on technical support or developer role.
• 5+ years in managing technology operations with IT service management in healthcare, education and research.
• Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication, analytical and leadership skills.
• Extensive expertise in hardware, software, systems and applications across portfolios.
• Strong knowledge of cloud computing, cost optimization, emerging technologies and AI.
• Proven relationship management and performance oversight.
• Solid understanding of organizational objectives and ITIL processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership and establish best‑practice guidelines for IT units.
• Direct development of network/telecom infrastructure strategy and partner management.
• Grow and transform the workforce culture; coach and develop talent.
• Lead design, development, engineering, testing, and maintenance of new infrastructure systems.
• Foster continuous improvement to raise quality, efficiency and standards across IT services.
• Develop engineering strategy and KPI dashboards; drive process improvements.
• Ensure disaster readiness and cost‑effective operations campus‑wide.
• Oversee change/release control to safeguard service delivery and continuity.
• Collaborate with Information Security on data protection across the enterprise.
• Coordinate with BioMed on medical device integration with infrastructure for patient care.
