Job summary

The City of Raleigh Solid Waste Services Department seeks a Technology Analyst to support the Administrative Division with technology projects and initiatives. You will serve as a project lead for department-wide efforts, collaborating with staff, vendors, and IT partners.

You will analyze needs, document requirements, and implement solutions in Cityworks, AVL/telematics, or other systems, while providing user training and ongoing support.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or 2 years of college in IT/CS; 1–3 years in asset management or system administration.
  • Substitution of equivalent training/experience allowed.
  • Valid NC Class C Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 60 days.
  • CompTIA A+ and Microsoft Certification preferred.
  • Experience with Cityworks preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages technical projects; defines system requirements, priorities and viable alternatives; presents solutions to stakeholders; prioritizes and coordinates tasks; maintains schedules and provides project updates; fosters organizational change management.
  • Serves as project team member on projects with technical components; analyzes and documents requirements.
  • Performs needs analysis; researches technologies for current and future projects; identifies and implements technical solutions and productivity enhancements.
  • Oversees business processes and system solutions; identifies, develops, implements and/or maintains technology solutions.
  • Provides technology support for Solid Waste Staff; provides application support including system debugging, updating and configuration, user support; documentation creation/management.
  • Coordinates vendor relationships; acts as the point of contact between Solid Waste and external vendors/partners.
  • Provides analytical support of assigned business systems, servers and applications; develops and maintains reports, technical system documentation, end user reporting tools, database structures, queries and/or technical reference materials; develops system interfaces and extracts/migrates data.

Job description

The Solid Waste Services Department provides residential curbside collection of garbage, recycle, yard waste and a variety of specialized services. The department is organized into two divisions: Administration and Operations. The Technology Analyst works within the Administrative Division of Solid Waste to support the technology projects, initiatives and responsibilities of both divisions. This position will serve as a project lead for department-wide initiatives within their area of responsibility.

The ideal candidate for this role will be a highly collaborative technical professional with a proven ability to manage projects, strategically solve problems, and manage organizational change

You are a collaborative, solutions-focused technology professional who enjoys solving problems and improving processes. You can manage projects, support business systems, troubleshoot issues, and communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and IT partners. Experience with project management, AVL/telematics software, or Cityworks is a plus.

  • May serve as lead workers, assigning work and monitoring work completion or may supervise staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures
Education and Experience

Associate's Degree or 2 Years of College in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; 1 to 3 years' experience in asset management, system administration or a related field

OR Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted

Licenses or Certifications
  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
  • CompTIA A+ and Microsoft Certification
