Job summary

The City of Raleigh North Carolina is seeking a Senior Transportation Analyst to shape Raleigh’s transportation network. You will analyze traffic data, manage daily operations, and support planning studies while improving data workflows and resident service responsiveness.

You will collaborate across departments, configure city systems, and deliver clear insights through reports and dashboards to guide infrastructure decisions and enhance residents’ quality of life.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Transportation Planning, Urban/Regional Planning, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
• 5 to 7 years of transportation, urban or regional planning, transportation engineering, or related work experience.
• Equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.

Responsibilities

• Respond to Resident Requests: Provide excellent customer service to residents by intaking and managing resident requests. Develop efficient workflows for high volume requests and coordinate with program staff to complete analysis and provide responses.
• Deliver High-Quality Analysis: Conduct transportation studies in multiple platforms to respond to resident requests and meet program needs. Validate and synthesize results into clear, actionable insights for staff and program managers.
• Administer Business Systems: Configure the City’s asset management and project management systems to support program workflows. Meet with program staff to understand business needs and implement process improvements to meet those needs.
• Produce and Maintain Reports: Develop, update, and maintain reports and dashboards serving program needs from business system data. Design and maintain processes across systems to allow useful analytics and performance monitoring.

Job description

Shape the future of Raleigh’s transportation network by combining technical system expertise with strong customer service and communication skills. The Senior Transportation Analyst administers key business systems; completes analysis on transportation data such as traffic volumes, speed, and crashes; and responds to resident requests. In this role, you’ll get involved in hands‑on work with daily maintenance, operations, and planning studies as well as in the reporting generated from that daily work. This unique position will give you a view into the full life cycle of business data and allow you to continually refine business processes. Your work will elevate the department’s responsiveness to the community and guide data‑informed infrastructure decisions that improve the quality of life of Raleigh residents.

About Us

The Business Intelligence unit manages and develops data and data‑based tools for programs across the Transportation department. The transportation field is changing rapidly with the exponential growth in data on how people move around the City and interact with transportation infrastructure. The Business Intelligence unit helps program managers identify and procure useful data, analyze data, track performance metrics, and leverage new technologies like computer vision. We also manage key business systems for the department to ensure quality data feeds dashboards and other analytical tools. These services support asset management, performance monitoring, response to resident requests, and the development and prioritization of capital transportation projects.

Monitor requests, work orders, and projects in these systems to identify and address incomplete data and aging requests.

• Produce and Maintain Reports:Develop, update, and maintain reports and dashboards serving program needs from business system data. Design and maintain processes across systems to allow useful analytics and performance monitoring.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Transportation Planning, Urban/Regional Planning, Transportation Engineering, or related field or related field; 5 to 7 years’ experience in transportation, urban or regional planning, transportation engineering, or related work

ADA and Other Requirements

Sedentary: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Employees will frequently work in an office environment and will occasionally work in an outdoor environment, near moving traffic on a construction site, in a vehicle in a warehouse environment and shop environment. Employees will occasionally be exposed to individuals who are hostile or irate, extreme cold (below 32 degrees), extreme heat (above 100 degrees), moving mechanical parts and loud noises.
