Job summary

Ascension Seton Northwest in Austin, TX seeks an experienced Surgical Tech to support the main OR in spine and orthopedic procedures. You will prepare OR setups, assist in patient positioning, pass instruments and implants, and maintain strict aseptic technique through long, complex cases.

The role requires NBSTSA or NCCT credentials, BLS, and relevant OR experience, with a Monday–Friday day shift and on-call rotation. Ascension offers comprehensive benefits and career growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 30 days of hire date; allowed by AHA or American Red Cross.
• Surgical Tech credentialed from NBSTSA within 6 months of hire or credentialed from NCCT prior to hire.
• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and organizes the operating room with spine and orthopedic-specific trays, implants, power tools, and sterile solutions.
• Assists the surgical team in safely transporting, positioning, and draping patients on specialized frames to ensure safe access to the spine and joints.
• Precision-passes complex orthopedic hardware, spinal instrumentation, biologic materials, and medications during procedures.
• Executes precise, continuous counts of specialized hardware, trial components, sponges, and delicate instruments throughout high-volume cases.
• Maintains stringent aseptic technique across complex, extended procedures to protect open bone and deep tissue from contamination

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration

• Required Credential(s):
  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • One or more of the following:
    • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
    • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Additional Preferences

• Complex orthopedic hardware and spinal instrumentation systems experience
• 3+ years experience in Ortho Spine surgery procedures
• Monday-Friday 8 hour day shift with on call rotation
