Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown in Nashville, TN seeks a Certified First Surgical Assistant to join the operating room spine team. You will provide high-level intraoperative support, manage instrument needs, and help maintain sterile turnover for each case. This role is a full-time day position with a $12,000 sign-on bonus.

The role emphasizes patient safety, precise positioning, and collaboration with surgeons to deliver exceptional outcomes in spine procedures.

Qualifications

• BLS within 30 days of hire required.
• Certified First Surgical Assistant required; CST experience preferred for some roles.
• Previous CST experience is preferred.
• Education options include HS diploma with experience or an technical/associate degree.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon intraoperatively with tissue manipulation, retraction, and suctioning.
• Manage OR setup, sterile turnarounds, and align with surgeon preferences for each case.
• Ensure patient positioning and equipment stability for optimal surgical exposure while maintaining patient dignity and comfort.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Elite Surgical Partnership: Serve as a seamless extension of the surgeon's hands. During complex procedures, you will provide high-level assistanceâincluding tissue manipulation, retraction, and advanced suctioningâacting as a critical pillar of the intraoperative team.
• Operational Excellence: Own the rhythm of the OR. From customizing the suite to meet specific surgeon preferences to managing streamlined, sterile turnarounds, your precision ensures we are always ready for the next life-changing case.
• Precision Anatomy Access: Act as the guardian of patient safety and surgical visibility. You'll masterfully manage patient positioning and stabilizing equipment to provide optimal surgical exposure while prioritizing the dignity and comfort of those in your care.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Certified First Surgical Assistant obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Hired/transferred before 5/30/21 not required to hold certification. Accepted: National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting; American Board of Surgical Assistants; or National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
