Job summary

Ascension is seeking a Surgical Tech to prepare and organize the operating room for spine and orthopedic cases in Austin, TX. You will support the surgical team during procedures, ensuring safe patient access and precise instrument handling.

The role requires BLS within 30 days of hire and either NCCT or NBSTSA certification within specified timelines, with a focus on high-volume cases and strict asepsis. Monday–Friday day shift with on-call rotation may apply.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 1 month of hire or transfer date (American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted).
• Surgical Tech credential from NCCT obtained before hire date or NBSTSA credential obtained within 6 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and organize OR with spine/orthopedic trays, implants, power tools, sterile solutions.
• Assist in transporting, positioning, and draping patients on specialized frames for spine/joint access.
• Pass complex orthopedic hardware and spinal instrumentation during procedures.
• Maintain continuous counts of hardware, trial components, sponges, and delicate instruments.
• Maintain aseptic technique across lengthy procedures to protect bone and tissue from contamination.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted required.
• One or more of the following required:
• Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Additional Preferences

• Complex orthopedic hardware and spinal instrumentation systems experience
• 3+ years experience in Ortho Spine surgery procedures
• Monday-Friday 8 hour day shift with on call rotation
