Job summary

Ascension is seeking a Certified Surgical Assistant to partner with surgeons in the Dell Seton Medical Center-UT OR. The role includes tissue retraction, hemostasis, patient positioning, and post-procedure turnover in a day-shift, full-time role with on-call rotations.

Minimum requirements include NBSTSA CSFA credential, BLS within 30 days, and a high school diploma with experience or an associate/technical degree. Robotics experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 30 days of hire date; AHA or ARC accepted.
• NBSTSA Certified Assistant Surgical Assistant credential required.
• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assist primary surgeons with tissue retraction, suction, and hemostasis to maintain a clear surgical field.
• Position patients using stabilization devices to optimize exposure while protecting skin and nerves.
• Apply sterile dressings, secure drainage systems, and oversee post-procedure room turnover and decontamination.
• Collaborate with OR staff and remain available for emergency on-call shifts.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Partner directly with primary surgeons during operative procedures to provide manual and mechanical tissue retraction, maintain a clear surgical field via targeted suction/irrigation, control hemostasis, and perform body plane closures.
• Position patients using specialized stabilization devices to optimize surgical site exposure while safeguarding skin integrity, nerve pathways, and physiological alignment.
• Apply sterile surgical dressings, secure dynamic wound drainage systems, and oversee post-procedure room turnover and decontamination to maintain operating room efficiency.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary operating room staff, handle delegable surgical tasks, and maintain reliable availability for emergency on-call shifts.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Certified Assistant Surgical Assistant specializing in Surgery credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Additional Preferences

• 2+ years CSFA experience
• Demonstrates advanced proficiency with robotic procedures within the Robotics Service Line.
• Monday-Friday | 7:30am-4:00pm with on call rotation
