Position Overview

Transdev in Paramount, CA is seeking an experienced Technician in Charge to bolster the team. This position requires the knowledge and skills necessary to diagnose and repair commercial vehicles and equipment, manage daily technician scheduling and operations, and maintain efficient workflow and resource allocation. The Lead Technician/Technician in Charge will play a crucial role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and longevity for our assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and accurately perform all phases of vehicle repairs.
  • Remove, clean, repair, reinstall, and adjust vehicle components.
  • Perform engine repairs and diagnosis.
  • Work with engine emission components (State certification).
  • Handle driveline components.
  • Address electrical/electronic components.
  • Work with brakes, suspension, steering, and exhaust systems.
  • Maintain cab/chassis and hydraulics.
  • Use scan tools proficiently.
  • Ensure work orders are properly completed.
  • Select appropriate course of action for repairs.
  • Evaluate completed work prior to release.
  • Ensure safe use of power and hand‑held tools.
  • Perform road calls and emergency services as necessary.
  • Move vehicles safely between job and work area.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, team members, and supervisors.
  • Actively participate in safety or educational training as required.
  • Maintain ASE/EVT re‑certification to remain in job classification.
  • Coordinate and prioritize the workload of the diesel technician team, assigning tasks and ensuring timely completion.
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues in diesel vehicles and equipment.
  • Coach and monitor members of the work team.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a diesel technician, with demonstrated proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and related systems.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible schedules as needed.
  • Subject to DOT drug testing and physical examination if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.
Physical Requirements
  • The essential functions of this position require the ability to intermittently sit, stand, stoop, crouch, walk, lift of light and heavy objects, climb ladders/stairs/ramps or scaffolding, and use tools and equipment that require a high degree of manual dexterity.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to fifty pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than one hundred pounds.
