UCHC operates with a total budget of $150 million and approximately 1,000 staff.

Posting Summary

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Part‑Time Technician I for Southwoods State Prison, located in Bridgeton, NJ. The Technician I participates as a member of the clinical and administrative medical team at the prison.

Responsibilities

• Take vital signs, height, and weight and document them in electronic medical records (EMR).
• Assist the physician/associate practitioner with procedures, including preparing the inmate for examination.
• Obtain specimen collection and handling, including drawing blood.
• Assist with cleaning, sterilization, and securing of equipment within the Health Service Unit.
• Maintain or assist in maintaining the supply stock in the Health Service Unit by ordering it in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Maintain the supply stock in examination rooms.
• Aggregate orders of all medications and forward them to the pharmacy provider or local pharmacy.

Qualifications

• Valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification required.
• At least two (2) years of progressively responsible related healthcare experience involving multiple areas of knowledge, skill, and ability, demonstrating competency to perform essential duties.

Certifications & Licenses

• CPR certification.
• Valid driver’s license required; holder must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation between sites.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Must be able to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes as a first responder. Must be physically capable of assisting in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate, up to 50 pounds. Work is conducted in a correctional facility environment.

Special Conditions

Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
