Overview

University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) operates within Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, providing physical, mental health, dental and sex offender treatment services within the criminal justice system in New Jersey. With a budget of $150 million and approximately 1,000 staff, UCHC leads in delivery of evidence‑based and compassionate care in correctional environments.

Posting Summary

Part‑time Technician I position located at the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, NJ. Technician I works as a member of the clinical and administrative medical team, supporting physicians and associate practitioners.

Responsibilities

• Takes vital signs, height, and weight and documents findings in electronic medical records (EMR).
• Assists physicians/associate practitioners with procedures, including preparing inmates for examinations.
• Collects and handles specimens, such as drawing blood.
• Clears, sterilizes, and secures equipment within the Health Service Unit.
• Maintains or assists in maintaining supply stocks in the Health Service Unit and examination rooms, ordering supplies timely.
• Aggregates medication orders and forwards them to the pharmacy provider or local pharmacy.

Qualifications

• Valid certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).
• At least two (2) years of progressively responsible related healthcare experience involving multiple areas of knowledge, skill, and abilities.

Certifications / Licenses

• CPR Certification.
• Valid driver’s license and ownership of a vehicle or alternative transportation to travel between sites.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Able to assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate, up to 50 pounds.

Compensation

Hourly minimum $21.04, mid‑range $21.54, maximum $22.19. Final offer determined by qualifications, experience, and available funding.
