Rutgers University’s UCHC New Jersey State Prison A is seeking a Technician I to support the clinical and administrative medical team at the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, NJ. The role focuses on recording vital signs, assisting with procedures, and coordinating medication orders within the Health Service Unit.

The ideal candidate will hold CMA/EMT/CNA certification, have at least two years of healthcare experience, CPR certification, and reliable transportation between sites.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Take vital signs, height, and weight and document results in EMR.
• Assist physician/AP with procedures and prep patients for examinations.
• Obtain specimens and handle them (e.g., blood draws).
• Assist with cleaning, sterilization, and securing of equipment.
• Maintain stock in Health Service Unit by ordering supplies.
• Maintain stock in examination rooms.
• Aggregate medication orders and forward to pharmacy provider.

Title: Technician I – Full Time
Location: New Jersey State Prison, Trenton, NJ
Department: UCHC New Jersey State Prison A

Overview

University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), operating within Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, provides comprehensive physical, mental health, dental, and sex offender treatment services to individuals involved in the criminal justice system. The Technician I supports the clinical and administrative medical team at the New Jersey State Prison.

Responsibilities

• Takes vital signs, height, and weight and documents results in electronic medical records (EMR).
• Assists the physician/associate practitioner with procedures, including preparing inmates for examinations.
• Obtains specimens and handles them, such as drawing blood.
• Assists with cleaning, sterilization, and securing of equipment within the Health Service Unit.
• Maintains stock in the Health Service Unit by ordering supplies in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Maintains stock in examination rooms.
• Aggregates medication orders and forwards them to the pharmacy provider or local pharmacy.

Required Certifications and Experience

• Valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification.
• At least two (2) years of progressively responsible related healthcare experience across multiple areas, demonstrating competency to perform the role’s essential duties.
• CPR certification.
• Valid driver’s license and own vehicle or alternative means of transportation between sites.

Physical Demands

Must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Must be able to assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate, up to 50 pounds.

Compensation

Annual salary range: Minimum $21,040 – Mid $21,540 – Maximum $22,190. Final offer may vary based on qualifications, experience, and available department or grant funds.
