Job summary

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care seeks a Per Diem Technician I to join the clinical and administrative medical team at the Prison, located at Edna Mahan Correctional Facility in Clinton, NJ.

The Technician I will participate as a member of the clinical and administrative medical team, supporting physicians and other practitioners with procedures and patient care under supervision.

Qualifications

• Valid CMA, EMT, or CNA certification required.
• At least two (2) years healthcare experience in multiple areas, with competencies for essential duties.
• CPR certification.
• Valid Driver’s License; must have own vehicle or reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Take vital signs, height and weight and document in EMR.
• Assist physician/AP with procedures and prepare inmate for examination.
• Obtain specimen collection and handling, including drawing blood.
• Assist with cleaning, sterilization and securing of equipment in Health Service Unit.
• Maintain supply stock in Health Service Unit and examination rooms.
• Aggregate medication orders and forward to pharmacy provider/local pharmacy.

Overview: University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), part of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, provides comprehensive health services to individuals in the criminal justice system. The position is located at Edna Mahan Correctional Facility in Clinton, NJ.

Posting Summary: Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Per Diem Technician I. The Technician I participates as a member of the clinical and administrative medical team at the Prison.

Responsibilities

• Take vital signs, height and weight and document in electronic medical records (EMR).
• Assist the physician/associate practitioner with procedures, including preparing the inmate for examination.
• Obtain specimen collection and handling, including drawing blood.
• Assist with cleaning, sterilization and securing of equipment within the Health Service Unit.
• Maintain or assist in maintaining the supply stock in the Health Service Unit and in the examination rooms.
• Aggregate medication orders and forward them to the pharmacy provider / local pharmacy.

Qualifications

• Valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification required.
• At least two (2) years progressively more responsible related healthcare experience involving multiple areas of knowledge, skill, and abilities, and demonstrating competencies to perform the essential duties of the position.
• CPR certification.
• Valid Driver’s License; must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation.

Salary and Benefits

Salary: $18.45 per hour (range $15.92 - $150.00). Employment Conditions

Working Hours: 19 hours. Standard Hours: 40.0. Daily Work Shift: Rotating. Full onsite work arrangement required.

Physical Demands: Ability to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).

Special Conditions: Must be approved by the Department of Corrections and adhere to all DOC requirements.
