Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Part-Time UCHC Technician I for the Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center. The Technician I joins a clinical and administrative medical team inside a prison setting, performing vital signs, specimen collection, and assistance with examinations to support inmate health services.

Responsibilities include documenting vitals in EMR, aiding with procedures, blood draws, equipment sterilization, and stock management; plus aggregating medication

Qualifications

• Valid CMA, EMT, or CNA certification.
• At least two years of healthcare experience involving multiple knowledge areas.
• CPR certification.
• Valid driver’s license and own vehicle or reliable transportation to site.

• Assist physician/AP with procedures, including preparing inmates for examination.
• Obtain specimen collection and handling, including drawing blood.
• Assist with cleaning, sterilization, and securing of equipment in Health Service Unit.

• Aggregate orders of all medications and forward to pharmacy provider/local pharmacy.

University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), operating within Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, provides physical, mental health, dental, and sex‑offender treatment services to individuals involved in the criminal justice system in New Jersey. The Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center is located in Avenel, NJ.

Posting Summary

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Part‑Time UCHC Technician I for the Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center. The Technician I is a member of the clinical and administrative medical team at the prison and performs a variety of clinical tasks including vital‑sign measurement, specimen collection, assistance with examinations, and supply management.

Responsibilities

• Take vital signs, height and weight and document in electronic medical records (EMR).
• Assist the physician/associate practitioner with procedures, including preparing inmates for examination.
• Obtain specimen collection and handling, including drawing blood.
• Assist with cleaning, sterilization, and securing of equipment within the Health Service Unit.
• Maintain or assist in maintaining supply stock in the Health Service Unit and examination rooms.
• Aggregate orders of all medications and forward to pharmacy provider/local pharmacy.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification.
• At least two years of progressively responsible healthcare experience involving multiple areas of knowledge, skill, and ability.
• CPR certification.
• Valid driver’s license and own vehicle or alternative transportation to and from the site.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a correctional health setting.
• Knowledge of correctional facility protocols and security procedures.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

A first responder must be able to perform CPR for at least ten minutes and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 lb).

Special Conditions

Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
