Job summary

Houston City College is seeking a Part-time Technician in the Digital & Information Technology Lab. This position supports the Center of Excellence by maintaining instructional labs across various locations in Houston. Responsibilities include installing software, maintaining lab standards, and assisting with inventory management.

Qualifications

  • Assist in the maintenance of equipment inventory for assigned area.

Skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Education

Job description

Job Summary

Part‑time Technician in Digital & Information Technology Lab supporting the Center of Excellence (COE) in maintaining instructional labs across district locations, ensuring instructional lab standards, software licenses, curriculum alignment, and inventory maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Install and troubleshoot instructional software in DIT labs following license requirements and standards for SCH, CE, and corporate classes within deadlines.
  2. Maintain, follow, and support district‑wide and cross‑discipline instructional hardware and software needs aligned with school policies, security standards, and product requirements.
  3. Maintain lab standards by monitoring the exterior and interior of labs for policy violations and miscellaneous items such as trash, debris, and safety hazards.
  4. Assist in the maintenance of equipment inventory for assigned area(s).
  5. Assist with internal and external events as needed by the department, COE, and Workforce Technology initiatives across district.
  6. Keep abreast of current technology, learn new technology, and apply new skills effectively as needed by the COE and Workforce Technology related activities across district.
  7. Develop and maintain good working relationships with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  8. May have to relocate to a different campus and change assignments as required.
Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred.
  • One year directly related work experience may be substituted in lieu of educational requirement.
Experience
  • One year working with desktops, servers, and instructional equipment required.
  • Experience with hardware/software/networking installation & troubleshooting, and asset & inventory management preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and skill in MS Office, Apple Programs & Ecosystems required.
  • Basic knowledge and skill with operating systems, hardware/software installation and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to students with different academic and socio‑economic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel occasionally to other HCC locations.
  • Must read, write, and speak English and perform simple arithmetic calculations.
  • Subject to working nights, weekends and holidays.
