Job summary

Houston Community College is seeking a part-time Hardware/Software Technician to support campus IT operations in Houston. The role focuses on installing and repairing personal computer hardware and software, performing routine maintenance, and assisting in evaluating new equipment while keeping inventory and security up to date.

The position is part-time (14 hours per week) and located on-site at Houston campuses, offering opportunities to work with a diverse student body and collaborate with IT

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Install, modify, troubleshoot and repair computer hardware and software.
  • Perform routine maintenance to ensure good operating conditions.
  • Communicate with users to detect possible problems.
  • Assist in evaluating new equipment for the Technical Support area.
  • Maintain inventory for maintenance and repair of computers.
  • Keep virus protection up to date.
  • Perform regular hard drive cleanup and maintenance.
  • Maintain software documentation files.
  • Research and test new software packages.

Location: Houston, Texas. System Wide. Part-Time 14 hours per week.

Summary

Install and repair personal computer hardware.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Install, modify, troubleshoot and repair personal computer hardware and software.
  2. Perform routine maintenance to ensure good operating conditions.
  3. Communicate with users to detect possible problems.
  4. Assist in the evaluation of new equipment to be supported by the Technical Support area.
  5. Maintain inventory to ensure maintenance and repair of computers.
  6. Maintain up-to-date virus protection.
  7. Perform regular hard drive clean up and maintenance.
  8. Maintain files for software documentation; and
  9. Research and test new software packages.
QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

Education

Associate’s degree or certification in a related field required. Two (2) years directly related work experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.

Experience

One (1) year recent experience in hard/software technical support (HCCS experience is considered on a two for one basis).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  1. Demonstrated competencies in computer hardware/software installation and troubleshooting.
