Ziegler CAT is hiring a Rental Diesel Technician at our Columbus location to service a range of rental equipment, including CAT and non-CAT units. Typical hours are Monday–Friday, 6:30am–3:00pm.

The role requires 2+ years of diesel repair experience and a 2-year degree in diesel tech or equivalent. You will diagnose, repair, and document work orders while maintaining safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• 2-year technical college degree in diesel technology or an equivalent combination.
• 2+ years of diesel engine/equipment repair experience preferred.
• Knowledge of engines, hydraulics, driveline, electrical systems; CAT experience a plus.
• Ability to document work orders and communicate with supervisors, customers, and team members.

Job Overview

Ziegler CAT is hiring a Rental Diesel Technician to work on a variety of rental compact construction equipment, including Ziegler-owned and non‑CAT rental equipment, at our Columbus location. Hours are Monday through Friday, 6:30am–3:00pm.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair equipment including skid steers, compact wheel loaders, mini excavators, aerial lifts, tele‑handlers, CUVs, and other light and medium construction equipment.
• Document work orders in a complete and timely manner to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
• Work safely at all times, following company policies, procedures and standards.
• Work collaboratively and assist other technicians as needed regarding troubleshooting and repairs.
• Participate in ongoing training to enhance mechanical skills and grow product knowledge.

Qualifications

• 2‑year technical college degree in diesel technology or related field; or high school diploma/GED + 2 years of comparable shop mechanic experience.
• 2+ years of relevant diesel engine/equipment repair experience is preferred.
• Working knowledge of engines, hydraulics, driveline, electrical/electronics, diesel exhaust systems, and fuel systems; experience with Caterpillar equipment is a plus.
• Ability to write and communicate effectively and interact with supervisors, customers, and team members.
• Basic computer skills to document work orders and utilize online diagnostic systems.
• Own mechanic tool set.
• Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
• Pre‑employment drug test required.

Minimum Physical Requirements

Push/pull up to 50lbs; lift/carry up to 60lbs; lift bulky objects; standing, walking, using hands, talking, hearing, neck rotation, trunk rotation, stair climbing, ladder climbing, repetitive bending, kneeling, sustained squat, forward reaching, overhead reaching, supine overhead reaching, crawling, bin lift, high steps, fingering/grasping – able to use bolt box.

Working Conditions

Indoor and/or outdoor; noise level may be loud at times.
