Job summary

Ziegler CAT is seeking a Diesel Technician at our Minneapolis branch to service a diverse fleet of rental equipment including compact and heavy construction gear as well as agricultural machines.

Shift: 2nd shift – 4 to 10 hour workdays, Noon to 10:30pm, with possible initial training on 1st Shift (M-F 7:30-4:00).

Qualifications

• 2-year technical college in diesel technology or a high school diploma/GED with 2 years of comparable shop mechanic experience.
• 2+ years of relevant diesel equipment repair experience preferred.
• Knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, undercarriage, track systems, electrical, and fuel systems.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair Caterpillar equipment including compactors, excavators, loaders, dozers, and agricultural equipment.
• Document work orders thoroughly to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Work safely at all times, following company policies and standards.
• Collaborate with other technicians and assist as needed with troubleshooting repairs.
• Participate in ongoing training to enhance mechanical skills and product knowledge.

Job description

Ziegler CAT has an opening for a Diesel Technician to work on a variety of rental equipment including compact construction equipment, heavy construction equipment, and agricultural equipment at our Minneapolis branch.

Shift: 2nd Shift – 4 to 10 hour workdays, Noon to 10:30pm. Possible initial training period on 1st Shift (M-F 7:30-4:00pm).

Pay

Pay range: $27.00 to $45.00 per hour, depending on skills, experience, education, and location. The starting wage is dependent on experience and may vary by 10% based on location.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair Caterpillar equipment including compactors, excavators, loaders, dozers, and other heavy construction equipment as well as agricultural equipment such as tractors, combines, balers, sprayers, tillage equipment, and planters.
• Document work orders in a complete and timely manner to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
• Work safely at all times, following company policies, procedures, and standards.
• Work collaboratively and assist other technicians as needed regarding troubleshooting repairs.
• Participate in ongoing training to enhance mechanical skills and grow product knowledge.

Qualifications

• 2‑year technical college degree in diesel technology or related field; or high school diploma/GED and 2 years of comparable shop mechanic experience.
• 2+ years of relevant diesel equipment repair experience, preferred.
• Working knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, undercarriage, track systems, components, electrical, and fuel systems; working on Caterpillar is a plus but not required.
• Ability to write and communicate effectively and interact with supervisors, customers, and team members.
• Basic computer skills to document work orders and use online diagnostic systems.
• Own mechanic tool set.
• Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
• Ability to successfully complete a pre‑employment drug test.

Minimum Physical Requirements

Push/pull up to 50 lbs; lift/carry up to 60 lbs; lift bulky objects; standing, walking, using hands, talking, hearing, neck rotation, trunk rotation, stair climbing, ladder climbing, repetitive bending, kneeling, sustained squat, forward reaching, overhead reaching, supine overhead reaching, crawling, bin lift, high steps, fingering/grasping – able to use bolt box. Working conditions may be indoor and/or outdoor. Noise level may be loud at times.
