Senior Technical Recruiter — Software Engineering
Location: Remote, United States
Compensation: $50,000–$80,000 base salary + uncapped commission
About Recruiting from Scratch
Recruiting from Scratch is a software-driven technical recruiting firm. We help venture-backed startups and established technology companies hire exceptional software engineering, AI, product, and technical talent.
We work closely with clients to understand what they are building, define what great talent looks like, and connect them with candidates who can make a meaningful impact. Our goal is straightforward: place the right people in the right roles and create long-term value for clients and candidates.
The Role
We are hiring an experienced Technical Recruiter to lead complex software engineering searches from intake through accepted offer.
You will partner directly with founders and hiring managers, develop targeted sourcing strategies, evaluate technical talent, manage candidate and client relationships, and close competitive searches.
This is an agency recruiting role for someone who values technical depth, sound judgment, and measurable results. We care about placements, fees earned, candidate quality, and client trust—not activity for activity’s sake.
What You’ll Do
- Own full-cycle searches for senior and staff-level software engineers at competitive, well-funded technology companies.
- Lead intake conversations that produce a clear search strategy, including the technical bar, target companies, likely tradeoffs, and candidate scorecard.
- Evaluate engineers credibly by understanding what they built, the scope of their ownership, the technical environment, and the difference between senior- and staff-level impact.
- Explain and defend candidate assessments to technical hiring managers.
- Build focused pipelines through targeted outbound sourcing, referrals, market research, and our proprietary candidate database—not LinkedIn Recruiter alone.
- Use modern AI-assisted sourcing and research tools to identify candidates and work more efficiently.
- Manage thoughtful candidate processes, including preparation, feedback, compensation alignment, offer management, counteroffers, and closing.
- Maintain accurate pipeline data so clients and teammates always understand where a search stands.
- Stay current on software development, AI, and the changing signals of exceptional engineering performance.
- Turn what you learn into stronger scorecards, sourcing strategies, screening criteria, and recruiting processes.
What We’re Looking For
- A successful track record recruiting software engineers in an agency, executive-search, or high-growth startup environment.
- Demonstrated production, including placements made, offers closed, and fees or gross profit generated.
- Strong technical screening ability. You can distinguish between senior- and staff-level engineering scope and explain your assessment in concrete technical terms.
- Experience developing targeted sourcing strategies instead of relying on high-volume outreach.
- Strong candidate management and closing skills, particularly when candidates are considering multiple offers.
- Consultative written and verbal communication, with the credibility to advise engineers, founders, and hiring managers.
- Genuine curiosity about software, AI, and modern engineering organizations.
- The ability to work independently in a remote, transparent, and performance-oriented environment.
- High standards for candidate experience, data quality, organization, and follow-through.
Preferred Experience
- Recruiting across adjacent technical functions such as machine learning, data, infrastructure, product, or hardware.
- Hiring for venture-backed startups, including founding and early engineering teams.
- A computer science background, previous engineering experience, or experience building technical projects.
- Familiarity with modern ATS platforms, sourcing tools, and AI-assisted recruiting workflows.
What Success Looks Like
During your first several months, you will learn our clients, technical standards, tools, and search process well enough to manage searches independently.
Long-term success means:
- Making consistent, high-quality placements.
- Earning the trust of candidates and hiring managers.
- Producing focused pipelines instead of unnecessary volume.
- Keeping searches organized and moving forward.
- Improving how the broader team evaluates and recruits technical talent.
Compensation
The base salary for this position is $50,000–$80,000, depending on experience, plus uncapped commission. On-target earnings are approximately $120,000, with no ceiling for top performers.
Our commission structure rewards placements and fee production rather than raw submission volume. We will explain the complete commission plan during the interview process.
This is a full-time, remote position open to candidates based in the United States.
