Job summary

Belk is seeking a Technical Designer to own and manage technical specs, fit details, and pattern development across product categories. You will partner with design, product development, and vendors to translate fashion concepts into accurate specs and measured fits.

In this role, you will lead fit sessions, ensure calendar milestones, mentor junior designers, and maintain data accuracy in PLM while upholding quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• BS/BA in Pattern Making, Fashion Design, Technical Design or related program.
• 5+ years technical design, pattern making or related experience required.
• Flat pattern knowledge, pattern manipulation, draping and grading skills.
• Strong computer skills and knowledge of web-based product development programs.

Responsibilities

• Create technical spec packages including technical sketch, measurement spec, construction details, trim details and quality standards.
• Collaborate with senior technical designer, brand manager and design team to translate the product design and style vision into a consistent fit and quality level by the development of technical specification.
• Be the key communicator of technical information, coordinating with suppliers and cross-functional team members to achieve desired fit/quality for styles and categories.
• Build technical specifications including illustration, construction details/seam specification, measurement spec, trim requirements and block patterns when necessary.
• Evaluate garments for compliance with measurement, construction, style and fit intent.
• Ensure size and fit consistency within brands and adhere to established blocks.
• Lead fit sessions with brand managers, design team, and buying partners; provide technical expertise and innovative solutions.
• Maintain target calendar dates and coordinate with cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure on-time delivery.
• Generate and analyze sample status and sales reports; collaborate with vendors to resolve issues.
• Monitor follow-up and tracking of samples to maintain delivery dates.
• Perform store audits to ensure consistency of quality and fit; report production issues.
• Pattern adjustment and pattern making, grading skills; block pattern development.
• Recommend improvements on specs, patterns, construction, and techniques to improve fit and quality.
• Ensure data accuracy in PLM and compliance with quality and safety standards.
• Participate in department and company projects as appropriate to skill set.
