Technical Curriculum Developer – Advanced Manufacturing

Location: Remote

Time Zone: EST

Duration: Contract

Pay Rate: $50.00/hr W-2

Position Overview

We are seeking a technically minded Technical Curriculum Developer to support the design, development, and maintenance of scalable training solutions for skilled trades in Advanced Manufacturing.
This role is ideal for a technical translator—someone who can deconstruct complex engineering systems and rebuild them into structured, high-quality learning modules. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in Electrical, Instrumentation, and PLC/Controls, while also being comfortable with Industrial Mechanical systems. This is not simply a writing role; it requires someone who understands how machines and facilities operate and how to teach others to operate and maintain them.

Key Responsibilities
Content Design & Development – 70%
  • Build interactive digital learning modules using Articulate 360 (Storyline/Rise) and Google Workspace, fully integrated into the Canvas LMS.
  • Develop instructor manuals, detailed lesson plans, facilitation guides, and learner workbooks providing clear, step‑step instructions for complex technical tasks.
  • Create technical diagrams, videos, animations, and interactive demonstrations to help learners visualize complex processes such as electricity and fluid flow.
  • Design hands‑on laboratory exercises, diagnostic tests, and performance‑based assessments for electrical and mechanical systems, including safety documentation.
  • Translate technical competencies into modular, progressive skill‑building sequences that move from foundational theory to advanced industrial troubleshooting.
Curriculum Maintenance & Feedback – 20%
  • Synthesize feedback from learners, instructors, and field subject matter experts to identify pain points and drive curriculum improvements.
  • Manage the update cycle for existing modules, including adding, updating, or removing content based on changing industry standards and market signals.
  • Maintain version control and technical documentation for training materials to ensure consistency across programs.
Program Support & Collaboration – 10%
  • Develop instructor onboarding materials and resource libraries, including technical reference sheets and troubleshooting guides.
  • Assist with program descriptions and technical marketing materials for recruitment and external partnership engagement.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally while also managing projects and tasks independently.
Required Qualifications
Technical & Industrial Expertise
  • 1–3 years of technical instructional design experience.
  • 1–3 years of experience working in or with electrical or electromechanical roles in industrial environments.
  • Strong technical background with the ability to grasp and convey highly technical subject matter.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in live digital conversations via platforms such as Zoom or in an in‑person training environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrable understanding of electrical systems, instrumentation, and PLC logic and troubleshooting.
  • Experience or strong technical familiarity with integrated mechanical systems, including:
    • Industrial HVAC, chillers, and cooling towers
    • VFD‑controlled pumping systems
    • Heat exchangers and hydronic piping loops
    • Water treatment and filtration systems
    • Industrial conveyor systems, sorters, and motor‑driven rollers
    • Diesel generators and automatic transfer switches (ATS)
    • Basic pneumatic and hydraulic controls
  • 1–3 years of experience working in or consulting for Advanced Manufacturing environments with skilled tradespersons.
Instructional Design & Technology
  • 1–3 years of experience in instructional design or technical training content creation.
  • Associate‑level proficiency with Articulate 360.
  • Associate‑level proficiency with Canvas LMS.
  • High proficiency with Google Workspace, including Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
  • Exceptional written communication skills and the ability to simplify expert‑level technical terminology into structured, teachable content.
  • Understanding of industrial safety standards and regulatory requirements, such as OSHA and NFPA 70E.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional certifications in maintenance‑related disciplines such as Electrical, HVAC, or Industrial Safety.
  • Experience with virtual labs, AR/VR simulations, or SCORM/xAPI content development.
  • Familiarity with competency‑based education (CBE) and national credentialing frameworks.
  • Certifications such as:
    • SACA Certified Industry 4.0 Associate or Specialist
    • SMRP Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician (CMRT)
    • NIMS Industrial Maintenance modules
    • OSHA 10 or 30 – General Industry
    • NFPA 70E
    • ATD Instructional Design or E‑Learning Instructional Design Certificate
    • Articulate Storyline 360/Rise 360 training or certification
    • Canvas Certified Educator
Ideal Candidate
  • Creative, inventive, and comfortable in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Collaborative and flexible, with the ability to work cross‑functionally and independently.
  • A lifelong learner who is comfortable learning new tools and technologies.
  • Data‑driven and results‑oriented.
  • An effective communicator with strong oral and written skills.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and time‑management skills.
