Job summary

MSX International is seeking an Automotive Technical Training Curriculum Developer in Auburn Hills, MI to design and update technical learning solutions for an automotive OEM. You will create instructor-led, virtual, self-study, and web-based training, plus assessments and media.

The role requires hands-on automotive diagnostic knowledge and strong instructional-design expertise. Travel for field research and pilot activities is expected as needed.

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of automotive technician experience with diagnostic and repair work.
  • Seven or more years of automotive technical instructional design, curriculum development, or course development experience.
  • Experience designing instructor-led, virtual, self-study, and web-based technical training using modern interactive, narrative-based, and adult-learning approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Design and update instructor-led, virtual, self-study, web-based, and vehicle-launch technical training.
  • Create instructor and technician guides, presentations, objectives, storyboards, job aids, assessments, scripts, graphics, and digital media.
  • Develop hands-on, exercise-driven instructor-led courses and interactive iPad-compatible learning materials.
  • Build SCORM-compliant eLearning using Articulate Storyline 360 and Rise 360.
  • Develop and revise assessments aligned to learning objectives and course content.
  • Research vehicle systems, diagnostics, service procedures, product changes, and new technologies using OEM resources.
  • Inspect, disassemble, and reassemble vehicle components to validate technical accuracy and develop learning exercises.
  • Collaborate with instructors, SMEs, curriculum designers, product support, publications, IT, and other stakeholders to define learning requirements and course flow.
  • Develop self-study programs from supplied source materials and create new programs as needed.
  • Review curriculum for duplicate or overlapping learning objectives and apply instructional-design methodology.
  • Participate in course reviews, pilots, train-the-trainer events, and training facilitation.
  • Maintain organized curriculum archives, source files, documentation, and version control.
  • Manage multiple projects, communicate risks and progress, and deliver work within scope and timelines.
  • Support iPad-based training delivery and Apple-device administration activities.

Program Overview

This automotive OEM technical training program develops high-quality learning content for dealership technicians and shop foremen. The program translates complex vehicle systems, diagnostics, and emerging technologies into practical instructor‑led, virtual, self‑study, and web‑based learning solutions.


Position Summary

The Automotive Technical Training Curriculum Developer designs, develops, and updates technical learning solutions for an automotive OEM. This senior instructional‑design role creates instructor‑led training, virtual training, self‑study programs, web‑based training, assessments, technical graphics, video, and related digital learning assets.


The successful candidate combines strong instructional‑design expertise with hands‑on automotive diagnostic and repair knowledge. They independently research vehicle systems, collaborate with technical stakeholders, facilitate training when needed, and manage curriculum projects from discovery through final release.


Key Responsibilities


  • Design and update instructor‑led, virtual, self‑study, web‑based, and vehicle‑launch technical training.

  • Create instructor and technician guides, presentations, objectives, storyboards, job aids, assessments, scripts, graphics, and digital media.

  • Develop hands‑on, exercise‑driven instructor‑led courses and interactive iPad‑compatible learning materials.

Five (5)+ years of automotive technician experience, including practical diagnostic and repair experience.


Seven (7)+ years of automotive technical instructional design, curriculum development, or course‑development experience.


Demonstrated ability to design and write instructor‑led, virtual instructor‑led, self‑study, and web‑based technical training using modern interactive, narrative‑based, and adult‑learning approaches.


Experience facilitating technical training and supporting or leading train‑the‑trainer activities for technical instructors or automotive OEM personnel.


Experience developing new courses and updating existing technical curriculum, including objectives, assessments, instructor materials, technician materials, presentations, and digital learning assets.


Ability to consult with stakeholders to define training requirements, learning goals, measurable objectives, and instructional strategies.


Working knowledge of instructional‑design and adult‑learning principles, including ADDIE, learning objectives, assessment alignment, and Bloom's Taxonomy.


Ability to work independently and collaboratively in both small and large groups of subject‑matter experts and curriculum stakeholders.


Strong technical writing, editing, communication, organization, and project‑management skills, with exceptional attention to detail and quality.


Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and consistently deliver work within defined timelines and expectations.


Ability to travel for research, product review, pilots, training delivery, and planning activities.



  • Ability to support an on‑site schedule in Auburn Hills, Michigan, at least two days per week.

  • Knowledge of adult‑learning principles, ADDIE, assessment alignment, and Bloom's Taxonomy.

  • Strong technical writing, editing, communication, organization, and project‑management skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with technical stakeholders, manage multiple projects, and meet established deadlines.

  • Ability to travel up to 25% and work on‑site in Auburn Hills at least two days per week.

Travel

This hybrid role requires on‑site work at the automotive OEM facility at least two days per week, including work with vehicles, diagnostic equipment, and shop resources. Up to 25% U.S. travel is required for course discovery, research, pilots, train‑the‑trainer events, planning meetings, and training facilitation.
