Job summary

Firefly Children & Family Alliance in Indianapolis is seeking a Teaching Specialist for our shelter to teach social, academic and independent living skills using the Teaching Family Model. The role supports youth in a structured, supportive environment and promotes positive behavior changes based on individualized plans. This position covers childcare responsibilities and administrative duties, with an evening shift from 2:30 p.m.

to 10:30 p.m. and at least one weekend shift per week.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous leadership experience preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Effective organization & time management skills.
• Candidates must be at least 21 years of age.
• Valid driver's license with 6 points or less on driving record.

Responsibilities

• Provide childcare and collaborate with staff to ensure healthy day-to-day care of children.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with children per behavior care plans using the Teaching Family Model.
• Maintain a structured daily routine and coordinate activities to support developmental needs.
• Model and teach life skills including self-care and basic household tasks.
• Follow de-escalation procedures and support plans to reduce or avoid restraints.
