Job description

Overview

The Department of Psychology, within the Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences at North Carolina A&T State University, is seeking a teaching assistant professor whose primary role is teaching, service, and academic advising. The position will require teaching undergraduate courses in General Psychology for Majors, Freshman Seminar, Senior Seminar, Black Psychology, Psychological Statistics, and Research Methods, and other courses as needed. The primary purpose of this role is to provide student-centered teaching and service at the undergraduate level. Faculty in this role will provide student advising, student mentoring and recruitment, curriculum development, and engage in program assessment and accreditation-related procedures. The ideal candidate will be expected to: (i) incorporate modern pedagogical skills in teaching psychology courses; (ii) supervise and support psychology students’ independent research projects; and (iii) provide service to the Psychology Department, the college and university as well as to appropriate community and professional organizations. This is a 9-month, non-tenure-track position.

Organizational Context

The John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences (HCHHS) comprises six departments and the School of Nursing. The HCHHS offers undergraduate degree programs including Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Services Management, Kinesiology, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, and Sociology, and graduate programs including the Masters in Physician Assistant Studies (PA program), Master of Social Work (MSW), Master of Science in Health Psychology, and Ph.D. in Social Work. The department supports undergraduate and graduate education and is engaged in multidisciplinary research and community engagement initiatives.
