Primary Purpose of Position

The Department of Psychology, within the Hairston College of Healthand Human Sciences at North Carolina Agricultural and TechnicalState University, is seeking an Associate Professor with a Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience/Biological Psychology .Preference will be given to candidates with a research focus in 1) substance use disorders, 2) memory and cognition, 3)applied psychology, or 4) health psychology. . The primarypurpose of this role is to provide student centered teaching andclinical instruction of undergraduate and graduate level courses.Faculty in this role will provide student advising, studentmentoring and recruitment, curriculum development, engage inprogram assessment accreditation-related procedures. The idealcandidate will be expected to: (i) establish and sustain a strongexternally-funded research program in their field of expertise;(ii) produce an excellent record of scholarly publications; (iii)incorporate modern pedagogical skills in psychology courses toundergraduate and graduate courses; (iv)supervise and supportpsychology students in independent research projects; and (viprovide service to the Department of Psychology, the college anduniversity as well as to appropriate community and professionalorganizations.

This is a 9-month, tenure-track position.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Department of Psychology is a supportive community of committedfaculty and practitioners whose goals are to introduce students tothe ideas and concepts relevant to this discipline, encourageinterdisciplinary learning, prepare students for study in graduateschools, prepare students for entry-level jobs requiring knowledgein psychology, and train students to conduct both basic and appliedresearch. These goals are reached through quality classroominstruction, departmental colloquia, departmental studentorganizations, internship opportunities through independent study,and individualized research projects. The Department of Psychologyhas 840 enrolled undergraduate students and 30 graduate students.The department is seeking candidates to join a growing program witha highly interactive and productive faculty.

The John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and HumanSciences ( HCHHS ) comprises six departments and the School ofNursing. The HCHHS offers the following undergraduate degreeprograms: Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health ServicesManagement, Kinesiology, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, andSociology. At the graduate level, HCHHS offers four graduate degreeprograms, including the Masters in Physician Assistant Studies (PAprogram), Master of Social Work ( MSW ), Master of Science inHealth Psychology and Ph.D. in Social Work, PhD in AppliedPsychology, and Doctor of Nursing Practice ( DNP ). The HCHHS alsohosts the Center of Excellence in Integrative Health Disparitiesand Equity Research ( CIHDER ), a hub for multidisciplinaryresearch and community engagement to reduce health inequities.HCHHS leverages the synergistic relationships among thesedepartments to develop advanced academic programming, strengthentrainee mentoring, and conduct collaborative multidisciplinaryresearch and scholarly activity.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience,or another closely related Psychology sub-discipline at the time ofappointment.
