Description Title: Teacher’s Aide

Reports to: Child Development Specialist

Department: Early Start

Location: 2225 W. Adams Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90019

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $17.28 /hr.

Program Hours: Monday – Friday: 8:30 am to 4:00 pm

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Child Development Specialist or Program Manager, prepare and implement daily programming for children birth to five with or at risk of developmental delays, maintaining a safe and clean environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure the safe and regular care of children, including toileting, diapering, feeding, changing clothes, food prep, and supervision. Assist with arrival and departure, including bus loading/unloading.
  2. Work with children individually and in small groups, using positive teaching techniques, and develop knowledge of each child's goals. Provide documentation as needed.
  3. Follow daily assignments from the program manager and educator. Perform child-centered activities and assist with special projects.
  4. Maintain a safe, attractive, and clean classroom environment. Assist with updating materials and bulletin boards.
  5. Keep the site neat and safe, assisting with setup and cleanup routines.
  6. Follow emergency procedures and comply with safety and health protocols, including universal precautions and MSDS awareness.
  7. Report child abuse, incidents, injuries, and parent concerns immediately and assist with follow-up.

Other Duties:

  1. Ensure safe use of tools and equipment, comply with policies, attend meetings, and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent; Six college units in Early Childhood Education.
  • Six months of experience with children birth to five years old.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.

Requirements:

  • At least 6 ECE units and 6 months experience working with young children.
  • Pass DOJ background check, TB test, physical, and maintain First Aid, CPR, and CPI-NCI training.

Work Environment: Work with infants and toddlers with various needs, in a setting that may include loud noises, odors, and varying temperatures. Never leave children unattended.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, bend, squat, reach, and perform physical activities necessary for caregiving and supervision.
