Are you passionate about impacting the community and changing children’s lives? Join Chicago Youth Centers (CYC), which serves over 3,000 children and families annually, as a Teacher for ages 0-3.

Position Details:

  • Reports to: Childcare Director
  • Location: CYC Calumet Heights Center, 9207 S. Phillips Ave, Chicago, IL
  • Schedule: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday (schedule varies)

The Early Head Start Teacher (0-3) is responsible for providing developmentally appropriate experiences, supervising children, implementing assessments and curriculum, conducting screenings, home visits, and parent conferences, and referring children with disabilities. Participation in family engagement activities is also expected.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide a positive, responsive, and safe environment fostering social-emotional development.
  • Work with toddlers and two-year-olds applying best practices for care and safety.
  • Develop children’s self-esteem, trust, and autonomy.
  • Conduct developmental and social-emotional screenings.
  • Create weekly lesson plans tailored to individual needs.
  • Refer children with special needs and assist with inclusion using child IFSP.
  • Partner with families, encouraging involvement through meetings, events, and home activities.
  • Schedule and conduct home visits and parent conferences annually.
  • Maintain classroom safety, routines, and hygiene in compliance with regulations.
  • Respond to children’s individual needs and cues promptly.
  • Engage children at their level during play and activities.
  • Complete professional development hours annually and document achievements.
  • Support recruitment, enrollment, attendance, and retention efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the program’s mission.

EOE/MVF

Minimum Requirements
  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education with 2 Infant Toddler Courses.
  • Infant/Toddler CDA or 120 credit hours in Infant Toddler (if no degree).
  • At least Level 2 ECE/IT Gateways Credential, with a goal to achieve Level 5 by 2024.
Preferred Experience
  • 1+ years of EHS classroom experience in accredited settings.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Experience with Creative Curriculum and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Child observation, assessment, and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong communication skills.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
