Job summary

Texas Commission on Environmental Quality seeks an experienced HR Data Analyst and Visualization Designer to join our Administrative Services team. You will analyze workforce data, design dashboards, and deliver insights to leadership while supporting public information requests.

You will collaborate with HRIS and CAPPS teams to ensure data quality, develop ad hoc reports, and drive data-driven decisions across the agency.

Qualifications

  • Four years of full-time experience in data analysis, data research, data compilation; and/or reporting work.
  • OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, basic science, computer science, environmental science, mathematics, statistics or a related field; plus two years of the required experience.
  • OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; plus three years of the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct data analysis, visualization, and reporting of projects related to workforce statistics and data for Human Resources and Staff Services Division, as well as legislative interests and public information requests.
  • Utilize data visualization platforms and tools to develop data illustrations and dashboards ensuring accurate representation of data with meaningful insights for leadership decision making.
  • Consult with customers to identify business needs to design and deliver workforce and HR-related reports, including ad hoc report queries and data visualizations.
  • Coordinate with the Work Leader, management, and Information Resources Division to deploy methods to improve data quality.
  • Participate in user acceptance testing and data verification for CAPPS and HRIS reporting functionality; develop SOPs and guidance documents.

YOUR FUTURE TEAM

As part of TCEQ Administrative Services, you would help support the logistical and operational structure for TCEQ statewide -- the business foundation for the whole agency. See details about what we do. This position is a member of our Human Resources & Staff Services Division.

Here’s What You’ll Be Doing
  • Conduct data analysis, visualization, and reporting of projects related to workforce statistics and data for Human Resources and Staff Services Division, as well as legislative interests and public information requests. Conduct analysis of and research on data design and develop queries and reports and illustrate data using data visualization platforms.
  • Utilize data visualization platforms and tools to develop data illustrations and dashboards ensuring accurate representation of data with meaningful insights for leadership decision making. Consult with customers to identify business needs to design and deliver workforce and HR-related reports, including the development of ad hoc report queries and data visualizations.
  • Research and provide recommendations in the development of queries and visualizations, and methods for retrieving data and mitigating data issues. Coordinate with the Work Leader, management, and Information Resources Division to deploy methods to improve data quality.
  • Utilize reporting software to ensure valid data is imported from one database into another. Identify, research, and elevate data discrepancies within appropriate databases to Work Leader. Provide recommendations on mitigating data issues and deploy those methods to correct issues.
  • Participate in user acceptance testing and data verification for CAPPS and HRIS reporting functionality. Develop SOPs and guidance documents based on new or existing systems and data functionality. Contribute to the division's commitment towards continuous process improvement through data-driven decision making.
Required Education & Experience

Four (4) years of full-time experience in data analysis, data research, data compilation; and/or reporting work.

OR

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, basic science, computer science, environmental science, mathematics, statistics or a related field; plus, two (2) years of the required experience.

OR

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; plus, three (3) years of the required experience.

  • Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

WORK SCHEDULE

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Individual and work group schedule determined by the Human Resources & Staff Services Division.
