Job summary

Texas Commission on Environmental Quality in Austin seeks an experienced Manager to lead the Waste Permits Division. You will oversee MSW Section staff, guide operations, and ensure timely permitting and quality customer service for internal and external stakeholders.

This role requires strong people leadership, the ability to interpret solid waste regulations, and effective communication with regulated entities and the public.

Qualifications

As part of TCEQ's Office of Waste, you would contribute to agency efforts to regulate the generation, treatment, storage, and disposal of various wastes and the cleanup of contaminated sites. See details about what we do.

This position is a member of our Waste Permits Division.

Here¿s What You'll Be Doing
  • Complete/oversee highly advanced personnel management functions, which includes interviewing, hiring, and developing staff, performance management, etc.
  • Manage and oversee the highly advanced staff and activities of the MSW Section, consistent with division and section goals and objectives.
  • Communicate program information to employees, management, and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee and assure the quality and timeliness of customer service by division staff for both internal and external customers.
  • Facilitate professional growth and development opportunities for section staff.
  • Monitor pending workloads and permitting time frames to prevent development of significant backlogs.

Required Education & Experience

Experience in the management of a business function, division, or department relevant to assignment.

OR

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in a field relevant to assignment.

Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

Work Schedule

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
