Job summary

Texas Commission on Environmental Quality in Austin, TX, is seeking an experienced Professional Engineer to join the Office of Air and the Air Permits Division. You will review complex permit applications, perform rigorous technical analyses, and prepare documents for public notices and approvals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality customer service to applicants, agency staff, other agencies, officials, stakeholders and the public about permitting requirements.
  • Provide technical support for air permitting program policies and procedures for the team and agency.
  • Lead and attend technical training for major/minor permit reviews; participate in meetings.

YOUR FUTURE TEAM

This position is a member of our Air Permits Division.

Here's What You'll Be Doing
  • Review extremely advanced and/or high-profile air permit applications (i.e., projects), ensuring high quality work and completing the required quantity of projects within established timeframes.
  • Conduct a comprehensive technical review for projects to include defining all sources of contaminants, applying appropriate federal and state requirements, reviewing emission calculations, drafting permit documents, and completing technical review summaries. Prepare public notice authorizations and complete associated tasks.
  • Provide quality customer service to applicants, agency staff, other state/federal agencies, elected officials, stakeholders, and the public concerning the applicability of federal and state requirements for the permitting process and the technical completeness of projects.
  • Provide highly technical support for the team, section and agency on the application of policies and procedures related to the air permitting program.
  • Lead and attend technical training activities concerning major and minor permit reviews. Participate in division, section, and team meetings.
  • Coordinate and manage special projects assigned.

Required Education & Experience

Texas Professional Engineer's license plus five years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure. Qualifying work experience includes obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.

Career ladder progression One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer V. Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

WORK SCHEDULE

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Austin Headquarters Office.
