New Hanover County is seeking a Fiscal Support Specialist to support the Tax Department. The role handles clerical accounting duties for expense and revenue accounts and provides tax collection support to municipalities.

Key responsibilities include reconciling bank ledgers, posting electronic payments, processing refunds, assisting taxpayers, and supporting deputy tax collectors with delinquent tax research and letters. Full-time, non-exempt position with steady hours.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances; federal and state tax guidelines; office practices and procedures; basic math; record keeping procedures; accounting principles; billing and property systems; financial software applications.
• Skilled in operating computer hardware and software applications; operating various office machines; preparing various reports; interpreting financial information; maintaining inventories; providing customer service; maintaining effective work relationships; communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc.

Responsabilités

• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of all financial reports and records within tax collections and finance miscellaneous receipts.
• Reconcile bank ledger to all Munis cash receipts.
• Reconcile daily tax and Finance reports providing Finance with required documentation.
• Provide support to our municipalities with tax collection reports and inquiries.
• Ensure all electronic payments are posted daily and serve as backup as needed
• Process all tax refunds
• Complete all cash and check deposits
• Process all return deposit items.
• Respond to taxpayer inquiries (phone, email and in-person)
• Assist as a backup for mail processing, cashiering duties, Finance Courier.
• Duties may also include supporting our Deputy Tax Collectors with researching delinquent taxes and preparing necessary certified and legal letters to collect outstanding property taxes.
• Assist the Fiscal Support Supervisor and or Collection Supervisor in the overall needs of Tax Collections, such as audit requests for Finance.
• Performs work with regular and predictable attendance consistently meeting the scheduling needs as required by the county.
• Performs work during emergency/disaster situations.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
