Job summary

Check is transforming payroll infrastructure across the United States. The Tax Filing & Payments Associate role focuses on ownership of a defined set of jurisdictions, preparing and filing, and monitoring payments while building toward independent scope.

You will learn to file under established workflows, adapt to changing regulations, and collaborate with Payroll Operations, R&D, and Revenue to resolve escalations. Remote/hybrid options available.

Qualifications

• 1–2+ years of experience in operations, compliance, payroll, or a related function.
• Ability to pick up new systems and tools quickly.
• Ownership of defined pieces of work and taking initiative.
• Genuine written communication skills to log friction clearly.
• Genuine curiosity about AI and internal tooling.
• Comfort operating in an evolving product with ambiguity.
• Experience collaborating across Payroll Operations, R&D, and Revenue.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of a defined set of jurisdictions, including filing prep and monitoring payments, growing to handle amendments.
• File and pay within established workflows and adapt as regulations shift.
• Help balance tax accounts and investigate escalations with senior teammates.
• Log friction points and transform observations into actionable items for the team.
• Leverage AI to speed up work and improve accuracy as a normal practice.
• Manage your work scope with proactive communication about deadlines and blockers.
