Program Summary
The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) sustains the Army’s mission to develop, acquire, field, and sustain ground combat, tactical, and support systems throughout their lifecycle. The program focuses on ensuring operational readiness, reliability, and safety of automotive and ground support equipment critical to Army operations. Under this contract, personnel provide maintenance, repair, overhaul, and sustainment support in accordance with Army technical manuals, safety standards, and performance requirements.
Job Summary
The Engineering Technician V performs advanced technical work in support of engineering, maintenance, and sustainment operations for TACOM‑managed systems. This role applies extensive experience and technical expertise to analyze complex problems, support system design and modifications, and lead troubleshooting and integration efforts. This position operates with minimal supervision, serves as a senior technical resource, and may provide leadership, guidance, and oversight to lower‑level technicians. This position is contingent upon award.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Serves as a Senior Engineering Technician and technical subject matter expert, providing oversight and support for complex facility engineering projects and programs.
- Applies advanced practical engineering knowledge in civil, architectural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines to support facility construction, maintenance, repair, and modernization efforts.
- Utilizes CADD and GIS software to develop, review, and analyze technical drawings and geospatial data, while serving as the lead GIS specialist responsible for maintaining accurate engineering and mapping information.
- Independently manages multiple projects from planning through completion, coordinating with engineers, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives, schedules, and quality standards are achieved.
- Performs and leads quality assurance inspections, reviews technical deliverables, and ensures compliance with applicable codes, standards, and organizational requirements.
- Provides technical recommendations and solutions to leadership and project teams.
- Oversees the administration and maintenance of CADD, GIS, and engineering data systems, including record management, data integrity, system improvements, backups, and archives.
- Provides technical leadership, mentorship, and training to lower-graded engineering technicians, reviews work products for accuracy, and supports process improvements that enhance engineering operations and project execution.
- Provides leadership, mentorship, and technical oversight to lower-graded engineering technicians and support personnel, assigning work, reviewing completed products, conducting training, and serving as the senior technical advisor within the engineering function.
- Contributes to workforce development, process improvement initiatives, and long-range facility and infrastructure planning efforts.
Basic Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of engineering principles, methods, practices, and technical requirements across one or more engineering disciplines, with demonstrated ability to apply analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving techniques to complex assignments.
- Ability to independently analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical, procedural, and operational issues, while providing recommendations and guidance to engineers, management, and project stakeholders.
- Skill in evaluating engineering data, interpreting technical requirements, and making sound decisions on projects and issues with broad organizational impact.
- Extensive experience performing, overseeing, and evaluating installation, maintenance, operation, testing, and inspection activities involving specialized, custom, developmental, or continually modified equipment and systems.
- Ability to lead technical efforts, prioritize workloads, mentor lower-graded personnel, and ensure quality and compliance with applicable engineering standards, codes, and regulations.
- Ability to obtain or maintain a U.S. Government security clearance, as required.
- U.S. citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a related technical field
- Previous experience supporting DoD, Army, or TACOM programs
- Experience with tactical or ground vehicle systems, electronics, or mechanical integration
- Familiarity with Army engineering processes, Technical Manuals, and readiness reporting
- Previous leadership or technical lead experience
- Prior government contracting experience
