Job summary

  • U.S. citizenship is required by program requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in disassembly, repair, and overhaul of major vehicle components.

Program Summary

The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) sustains the Army’s mission to develop, acquire, field, and sustain ground combat, tactical, and support systems throughout their lifecycle. The program focuses on ensuring operational readiness, reliability, and safety of automotive and ground support equipment critical to Army operations. Under this contract, personnel provide maintenance, repair, overhaul, and sustainment support in accordance with Army technical manuals, safety standards, and performance requirements.

Job Summary

The Automotive Worker performs a variety of automotive maintenance and sustainment tasks in support of TACOM‑managed vehicles and equipment. This position supports preventive maintenance, repair actions, inspections, and readiness activities to ensure vehicles and systems remain fully mission capable. The qualified individual will play a critical role in reducing vehicle downtime and ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient sustainment operations. The position supports both hands‑on maintenance and logistical operations that are essential to TACOM‑managed platforms. This position is contingent upon award.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Works in a variety of production areas assisting higher grade heavy mobile equipment mechanics or repairers, in the disassembly, repair, replacement, overhaul, modification, and alignment of major components and systems for combat vehicles, such as, but not limited to, engines, transmissions, and fuel and electrical systems.
  • Assists others or independently performs standardized, routine, and repetitive tasks after training has been provided.
  • Uses common hand and power tools to remove internal and external assemblies, subassemblies, and parts from major components and systems.
  • Disassembles and segregates parts, makes visual checks for serviceability, and cleans parts by using wire brushes, cleaning solutions, and other similar hand operations.
  • Assists in the repair and reassembly of internal and external assemblies, subassemblies, and parts of major components and systems.
  • Items may include, but are not limited to, bearings, seals, gaskets, oil pumps, gas lines, fuel pumps, starters, generators, and other components of similar complexity.
  • Performs simpler work tasks independently, provides tools on request and assists others in the completion of more complex tasks.
  • Cleans parts and assemblies from various shop areas.
  • Applies the appropriate cleaning methods and solutions; applies protective coatings to parts as necessary.
  • Cleans parts by hand with brushes; operates steam‑cleaning equipment such as steam jennies and/or equipment operating from steam generated by heating plant.
  • Ensures that hazardous materials/waste within work area are handled/processed within operating guidelines.
  • Guidance for proper handling of hazardous materials/waste is obtained through formal training efforts and specific guidance issued by the supervisor.
  • Ensures that storage drum and other containers housing hazardous materials/waste, are properly palletized and secured for movement.
  • Checks to ensure that containers are sealed and reports any deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Properly disposes of hazardous materials/waste used/generated at work site.
  • Immediately notifies supervisor of any accident or spill and initiates response actions as directed by supervisor.
  • Since exposure to hazardous materials/waste is possible, wears protective clothing and equipment (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) as situations warrant.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • Ability to perform general labor tasks.
  • Must be able to read and write English, follow shop instructions, whether written, oral or electronic.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
  • U.S. citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; supplemental technical or vocational training preferred
Additional Information

This position will be a part of a physical work environment that requires standing, walking, and lifting. There is potential exposure to machinery, tools, fuels, oils, and outdoor conditions. Employees may also be required to work shifts, overtime, or weekend support based on mission needs.
