Job summary

Selby Jennings is seeking a Systems Support Engineer to maintain and improve the Linux-based development and testing environments powering our electronic trading platforms.

You will partner with engineering, QA, and operations to ensure high availability, build monitoring and automation, and rapidly respond to incidents.

The role is hybrid, based in Chicago, with onsite work three days a week, and requires hands-on scripting and tooling experience.

Qualifications

• 2+ years Linux systems/infrastructure experience.
• Strong networking fundamentals.
• Experience with distributed, high-availability systems.
• Scripting or programming experience with Python, Bash, Go, or Java.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or messaging technologies.
• Experience with monitoring, incident response, and root cause analysis.
• Exposure to AI-assisted development and automation tools.

We’re seeking a Systems Support Engineer to support the technology environments behind a fast-paced electronic trading business. You’ll work closely with engineering and operations teams to improve the reliability of development and testing platforms used to build and validate trading systems.

What You’ll Do

• Support Linux-based development and UAT environments used by trading technology teams

• Build monitoring, alerting, and automation to identify issues quickly

What We’re Looking For

• 2+ years of Linux systems or infrastructure experience
• Strong networking fundamentals, ideally including multicast
• Experience supporting distributed, high-availability systems
• Scripting or programming experience with Python, Bash, Go, Java, or similar
• Familiarity with tools such as Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or messaging technologies
• Experience with monitoring, incident response, and root cause analysis
• Exposure to AI-assisted development and automation tools
• Ability to troubleshoot effectively in time-sensitive environments
• Electronic trading, financial markets, or other real-time systems experience is highly desirable
• Technical degree or equivalent practical experience

This is a hybrid role working out of the firms Chicago office, working onsite 3 days per week.
