Position Summary

Pearson Virtual Schools (PVS) is hiring a Systems Administrator, local to Baltimore, Maryland, to join our team managing School IT Services for customers nationwide. Candidates should have practical experience supporting and administering various IT services. We seek someone with hands-on experience and the ability to manage and execute tasks effectively in a highly technical environment. Professional customer service skills and independent troubleshooting are essential.

Work Environment & Equipment

This position is 95% remote, with 5% in-person attendance when attending events, visiting schools or customers, or working from the local Pearson office. Employees must have suitable remote work setups, adhering to company policies regarding privacy, technology, and equipment standards.

Provided equipment includes:

  • 2 primary laptops and up to 10 test devices/peripherals
  • 4 external monitors
  • Additional hardware supporting multiple primary computers and test devices

Employees must provide:

  • Headset
  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
Overall Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support and solutions, including planning, configuration, implementation, upgrades, and maintenance of school staff and student technology and applications
  • Assist with escalated support issues, resolving customer problems using troubleshooting techniques
  • Troubleshoot daily technical issues for internal and external customers
  • Administer and troubleshoot Windows, ChromeOS, ChromeOS Flex, Apple iPads, and printers
  • Manage apps on Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and Azure environments
  • Configure devices for staff and students, ensuring access to tools and resources
  • Build, deploy, and maintain servers, including domain controllers, web servers, Linux, SharePoint, DNS/DHCP
  • Gather and assess application functions related to customer needs
  • Mentor Service Desk teams and serve as primary escalation point
  • Track tickets, prioritize tasks, participate in conference calls, and document processes
  • Contribute to knowledge base and perform other duties as assigned
Technical Skills & Proficiencies
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Entra ID, Exchange, SharePoint, Virtual Machines
  • Microsoft Endpoint Manager, Active Directory, Windows Server, SQL
  • Google Cloud Directory Sync, Google Workspace, Google Voice, Chrome Management
  • Hardware/software configuration, troubleshooting, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, SFTP, IIS, PowerShell scripting
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3 years in systems administration in a large enterprise
  • Availability for on-call, evenings, weekends, and during outages
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and in teams, and attention to detail
  • Reliable remote work setup with broadband internet
