Job summary

Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. in Herndon, VA is seeking an experienced System Development Engineer to design, build, and operate enterprise infrastructure across isolated AWS partitions.

You will own the engineering and operational excellence for containerized and serverless services and automate critical provisioning workflows. The role requires strong Linux, Python, and PowerShell skills, plus a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph and eligibility for commensurate government access.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 1+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
• Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby.
• Bachelor's degree, or CSSLP (Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional).
• 2+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands-on systems engineering experience.
• Current, active US Government Security Clearance of TS/SCI with Polygraph.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain serverless and containerized systems (Lambda, ECS Fargate, DynamoDB, SQS, EventBridge) deployed across multiple isolated AWS partitions.
• Write and maintain infrastructure as code (CDK/CloudFormation) for multi-region deployments.
• Own CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation across multiple isolated regions.
• Build monitoring, alarming, and observability tooling for service health across air-gapped boundaries.
• Write Python and PowerShell to automate operational processes and integrate systems.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, ORR s.
• Coach teammates on engineering best practices and operational excellence.
• Provide on-call support.
