Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Manager, Platform Services, this position involves deploying, designing, enhancing, managing, documenting, and maintaining computer systems and servers on AWS and VMware platforms. The role supports internal ITS teams and university partners by ensuring platform availability, security, reliability, and optimization. It leverages supporting systems to ensure service availability, integrity, security, performance, and reliability.

This position is eligible for remote work according to Cal Poly’s Telecommuting and Remote Work Guidelines and the CSU policy requiring work within California.

Department Summary

Information Technology Services (ITS) at Cal Poly is a dynamic team dedicated to supporting academic excellence through innovative technology solutions aligned with strategic goals. With over 170 professionals working in a DevOps environment, ITS fosters innovation, continuous learning, and professional development.

Key Qualifications

1. Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems.
2. Support and management skills including backup & restore, system maintenance, networking, scripting, security, and enterprise infrastructure services such as OS deployment, monitoring, disaster recovery, server hardware, and automation.
3. Experience with system configuration tools in large-scale enterprise DevOps environments (e.g., Microsoft Configuration Manager, AWS SSM, Ansible).
4. Support and experience with complex enterprise virtualization environments, including VMware and AWS.
5. Knowledge of automation languages such as Ansible, Bash, Python, PowerShell.

Education and Experience

1. Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience.
2. Additional qualifying experience may substitute for up to two years of education on a year-for-year basis.

Salary and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Range: $89,250 - $102,300 per year

Classification Range: $61,896 - $152,760 per year

Compensation factors include experience, skills, knowledge, education, certifications, and organizational needs. The anticipated hiring range is the expected salary budget, while the classification range reflects broader internal considerations.
