Job summary

Brooks Automation in Chelmsford, MA is seeking a System Software Engineer to develop next‑generation controls software for vacuum systems and related components. You will verify designs, automate calibration and testing, and contribute to data collection routines while supporting manufacturing and documentation efforts.

The role requires hands-on engineering with electromechanical systems, 2+ years in C++/C#, and familiarity with EtherCAT, gRPC, Python, PLCs, and RTOS.

Qualifications

• BSEE / BSCS or equivalent with 5+ years' experience
• MSEE / MSCS or equivalent with 3+ years' experience
• 2+ years of C++ or C# programming experience
• Experience with electro-mechanical systems preferred
• Experience with EtherCAT, gRPC, Python, PLCs, RTOS preferred
• Ability to learn complex systems quickly and work independently
• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Excellent technical communication and presentation skills

Responsibilities

• Develop next-generation controls software and verify its design
• Streamline or automate configuration, calibration and testing of vacuum components
• Develop routines for automatic data collection and analysis
• Support Manufacturing and maintain/release process documentation
• Motion control tuning, servo performance characterization and payload vibration analysis
